Marcelo Bielsa has provided an update on the fitness of injured Leeds United trio Adam Forshaw, Jamie Shackleton and Tyler Roberts ahead of the weekend.

The Whites head to the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday to face Huddersfield Town in the hope of extending their five-game winning streak and pushing West Brom at the top of the table.

There have been many injury setbacks to contend with along the way this season for Bielsa, with a lot of first-team players suffering spells on the sidelines thanks to injury. This weekend has been no different with Adam Forshaw struggling to overcome a hip injury that has kept him out of action ever since the defeat to Charlton back in September, where he had to be hauled off at half time.

Fellow central midfielder Jamie Shackleton has also struggled with injury around a similar length of time as he has looked to overcome a couple of injuries one after the other. Shackleton hasn’t started a league game since the 1-0 victory over West Brom at the start of October and has picked up a fresh injury that will keep him out for two to three weeks, according to Phil Hay of the Athletic.

Attacking midfielder Tyler Roberts had recently returned to the starting lineup over the past month and made a huge impact for the Whites in the final third, but a muscular injury sustained against Reading means he hasn’t featured since and won’t do so at the weekend.

How much do you remember about the Whites' 2010/11 season?

The Verdict

Forshaw’s injury seems to be dragging on and on after there was little indication that it would take time to recover when he initially did it.

It is a frustrating one to take for Leeds who could do with his calming influence and intelligence in midfield.

Shackleton and Roberts could also prove very useful upon their return with the fixtures unrelenting at this time of the year, as it adds strength in depth to Leeds’ side as they push for automatic promotion.
