Marcelo Bielsa has moved to play down his Leeds United side making a late surge for the Championship title, insisting that all his side can do is evaluate the table after each game.

Leeds have made up significant ground on Norwich City in the last two games, winning both and capitalising on the Canaries’ back-to-back draws.

With four games of the regular season remaining that’s pulled Norwich back within striking range for Leeds and Sheffield United, who have been locked in a three-horse race with Daniel Farke's men for much of the second-half of the season.

In yesterday’s press conference, Bielsa was quizzed on the possibility of a title challenge at Elland Road, but the Argentine gave a typically diplomatic answer.

“Our objective is to be focused on the three points of each game,” he told the press, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post. “After the games we can adapt to the reality of the table.”

Whilst talk of a title challenge is exciting, the primary target has to be securing a place in the top-two and pulling further ahead of Sheffield United.

This weekend Leeds are in action on Good Friday against Wigan Athletic before heading to Brentford on Easter Monday.

The Blades face Nottingham Forest at Bramall Lane first and then head to Hull City on Monday. Norwich take on Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke City at Carrow Road and the bet365 Stadium, respectively.

The Verdict

Talk of a title challenge – as exciting as it is – feels a little premature and Bielsa is bang on to play it down.

Norwich remain in such a strong position and Leeds should just focus on getting themselves clear of Sheffield United over the Easter period.

There will be twists and turns along the way, but Leeds just need to focus on themselves.
