Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has revealed his plan for Brentford defender Pontus Jansson ahead of the two sides’ Championship clash this evening.

Leeds host the Bees at Elland Road tonight, in what will be Jansson’s first appearance at the ground since making the switch between the two clubs in the summer.

The home side have made a great start to the season and sit top of the Championship, unbeaten in their first three league games of the season.

They welcome a Brentford side who have looked inconsistent so far, winning just once in their first three games and currently sitting 13th in the league.

The Bees look likely to be led by Jansson on his return, as the Swede has taken the captain’s armband in every Championship game so far this season.

Lots of the focus ahead of the clash has been on the Swede and, speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Bielsa revealed his side’s plan for their former defender in tonight’s game.

He said: “We know Jansson’s strengths.

“The end idea is to try to avoid the things that he usually does well, but this is normal in football. This is the game.

“You have to try to avoid the strengths of the other teams during games because this is the key of the game.

“But you are not going to make a difference just because you know the player very well.”

The Verdict

Ben White has proven a solid replacement for Jansson so far and has impressed in the Leeds defensive.

One area where the Whites do seem to be missing the centre-back is defending set pieces after they conceded a calamitous goal from a corner against Nottingham Forest.

The six-foot-three defender won the second most aerials in the Leeds squad last season, according to Whoscored, and his aerial ability is likely one of the 'strength' that Bielsa is referring to, so it will be interesting to see how they look to counteract that on both sides of the ball.
