Leeds United are eager to take Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back Ben White on loan for the 2019/20 season, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post

White impressed during the second-half of last season on loan with Peterborough United in League One and Marcelo Bielsa wants him signed before the start of pre-season.

Leeds struggled badly for depth at the back during the 2018/19 campaign and Bielsa is keen to strengthen the position this summer.

White made 15 appearances and scored one goal for the Posh as they narrowly missed out on a place in the third-tier play-off places but clearly did enough to attract the attentions of the Championship giants.

The report also indicates that Wolves winger Helder Costa is a target for the club with them, again, looking to land the 25-year-old on loan.

Bielsa came agonisingly close to leading Leeds back into the Premier League last season but they were beaten to second place by Sheffield United before being dispatched by Derby County in the play-offs.

The verdict

This is a deal that has me slightly conflicted.

White is a defender who is excellent on the ball and an all round intelligent footballer who I think would seriously add to the Leeds team.

But I find the loan aspect of the deal slightly underwhelming. None of the loans they picked up last season worked particularly well for them so it seems strange to follow the same formula again and expect a different result.

If I were a Leeds fan I would much rather see my club bringing in players who are fully invested in the club.
