Marcelo Bielsa has given his approval for Leeds to sell Mallik Wilks, according to Football Insider.

The winger has been the target of much transfer speculation this summer, with Grant McCann keen to reunite with the 20-year-old at Hull City.

Initially thought to be a loan deal, it now looks like the winger could leave Elland Road on a permanent basis, and it appears Bielsa is happy for the move to take place.

Strengthening his wing options has been a priority for Bielsa, and Leeds now look in a good place following the arrivals of Helder Costa, Jack Harrison and Rafa Mujica, who can play across the midfield.

McCann managed Wilks at Doncaster last season, where he impressed scoring 14 goals in all competitions, and assisted eight.

Wilks came through the Leeds academy but so far has made just one appearance, and hasn't got near the first-team since Bielsa's arrival.

The Verdict

It is important that all aspects of the Leeds hierarchy are working together for the benefit of the club. Bielsa would not be happy if a player was sold without his knowledge even if the player wasn't too important to his plans.

Wilks is a good player with a lot of potential so it is surprising that they are allowing him to go on a permanent basis. Perhaps Leeds feel Wilks isn't good enough for where they want to be in a few years time, which is the Premier League.

Despite that, he should do well at Hull next season playing under a manager he knows and Leeds could regret this decision in future.
