Marcelo Bielsa praised his Leeds United side after they celebrated a goal on Saturday by showing support to Jamal Blackman.

The Chelsea stopper arrived at Elland Road in the summer on a season-long loan, but that was cut short after he suffered an awful leg break in a recent U23 match.

It came at the wrong time for the keeper too, with Bielsa revealing that he was set for his first league start of the season against Bristol City until the injury.

Yet, despite only spending a few months with the Yorkshire club, Blackman clearly made a positive impression, with the team lifting a green goalkeeping shirt up with a message to the 25-year-old.

And, the manager told the Yorkshire Evening Post he was pleased to see his side do that for a clearly well-respected player:

"Immediately I saw the human quality of our team. I can say that Blackman is not only a great professional, but is also a great person.

"So I'm very happy that the teammates did that to Jamal."

The Whites also lost Bailey Peacock-Farrell to injury, meaning that youngster Will Huffer went in goal for the 2-0 win over Bristol City.

The Verdict

This shows just how highly regarded Blackman was at Leeds, as well as showing the togetherness in the group.

Clearly, Bielsa was pleased to see his side do that and he too has spoken highly of the unfortunate keeper.

Maintaining that team spirit and closeness will be vital for the side as they look to push for promotion in what will be a long, hard season.
