Marcelo Bielsa has praised Izzy Brown for how he has improved as he steps up his recovery from an injury - but it's unlikely to see him start this weekend.

The forward joined on-loan from Chelsea in the summer even though the club knew he would need months to recover from a serious knee injury.

The 22-year-old has been involved in the squad for over a month now, but Bielsa is carefully monitoring the player and has had him regularly playing for the U23s.

In that time, Brown has done well, finding the net regularly for Carlos Corberan's side. But, he still hasn't managed to feature for the Whites, although he has made the bench for the past two games.

And, the Argentinian manager praised the player for making 'constantly positive steps' when speaking to journalist Phil Hay today, also revealing that they would continue to assess him:

"We have to link his improvement to the needs of the team to see when he will start a game."

Brown may have hoped to come in for the injured Kemar Roofe against Bolton this weekend, but the ex-Marseille manager revealed that Tyler Roberts will get the nod.

The Verdict

Leeds have managed Brown very carefully and it's understandable as he was coming back from a very serious injury.

However, the forward will be getting slightly frustrated now as he has played a lot of football for the U23s and will be desperate to make an impact.

Saturday seems like the ideal time for him to make his debut and he could be a good option for the team moving forward.
