Marcelo Bielsa has reiterated that he’s happy with the shape of his Leeds United squad ahead of January, admitting it will be difficult for the Whites to deal in the winter window.

Leeds have had a strong start to the season under Bielsa, with the Whites now tasked with securing their place in the race to secure automatic promotion.

However, the size of Leeds’ squad has been tested so far this season, with a number of players missing through injury at different stages.

January is fast approaching and Bielsa has faced questions about the winter window.

Discussing the transfer window, Bielsa pointed towards Patrick Bamford, Izzy Brown, Gaetano Berardi and Luke Ayling, all long-term absentees who will be returning in the New Year.

The 63-year-old told Leeds Live: “It will be very hard to add new players. But we will have four more players coming in January, Bamford, Brown, Berardi and Ayling.”

When asked if that will be enough, Bielsa stated he thought it would, but admitted he would listen to the opinion of others at Elland Road.

“Yes. It’s only my opinion. The club can have a different opinion and I will take that into account," he concluded.

The quartet of Bamford, Brown, Berardi and Ayling will be out until January, but are Leeds’ only injury concerns at this moment in time.

Leeds head to West Brom on Saturday evening looking to build on their victory over Wigan Athletic last time out.

The Verdict

Bielsa could well change his mind on Leeds’ transfer strategy in January depending on the health of his squad coming out of the festive period, but it is easy to see why he has this view currently.

Leeds have done well this season, even with their lengthy injury list, which will be pleasing for the 63-year-old.
