Marcelo Bielsa has revealed that he held a conversation with Tony Pulis who proceeded to warn the new Leeds United head-coach that December would be a crucial month of the season.

Leeds moved to appoint Bielsa in the summer, with the Argentinian getting his first taste of English football with the Elland Road club.

Inside Bielsa’s first month at Leeds, Middlesbrough arrived at Elland Road and held the Whites to a goalless draw, with Pulis warning Bielsa about how important the current month is.

It’s been revealed to the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Phil Hay that Pulis told Bielsa the month of December would be ‘crucial’ in the season.

So far in the month Leeds have picked up six points from a possible six, stretching their winning streak to four fixtures.

This weekend, the Whites will take on Bolton Wanderers, before heading to Aston Villa the following week.

The Christmas period sees both Blackburn Rovers and Hull City visit Elland Road, as the Whites complete December with back-to-back home fixtures.

Whilst Bielsa’s side have enjoyed a strong start to the month Pulis described as ‘crucial’, his Boro team have picked up just one point.

Boro were heavily beaten by Aston Villa before securing a battling point against Blackburn Rovers.

The Verdict

Pulis is an experienced coach and Bielsa will certainly respect what he has told him about the Christmas period.

There’s no doubt that the rest of the month is going to test Leeds, not least because of how fast the fixtures come around.

Bielsa will have to manage his squad carefully to ensure that results continue at a good level.
