Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has made it clear that he didn't want Cody Drameh to leave the club after the youngster joined Cardiff City on loan.

The 20-year-old has been involved in the first-team with the Whites this season, making three Premier League appearances. However, with Luke Ayling now fit and available, game time is going to be hard to come by for Drameh for the rest of the season.

Therefore, a temporary switch to the Bluebirds, which was announced this week, seemed to be ideal for the development of the player.

Yet, speaking to reporter Phil Hay, Bielsa delivered a strong message on how this decision was entirely down to Drameh, who pushed for the move.

"I didn't think he needed to play games elsewhere. He was a player who was very necessary with all the absences we've had. But he preferred to play outside of Leeds. In a situation where opportunities for youngsters has increased clearly, in this case Drameh would prefer to experiment outside our team.

"I consider that position valid and I don't think it makes sense to oppose him. What I imagine as a great opportunity, he imagined it in a different way. It's more important what he thinks than what I think. I don't think it's convenient to oppose in a situation where a player does or doesn't want to belong."

The verdict

This was a real statement from Bielsa who isn't happy with Drameh and you can understand his point because the right-back is involved in the squad each week.

Having said that, Ayling and Stuart Dallas would likely be picked ahead of him at right-back so you can also see why Drameh was keen to leave to get minutes.

Now, it's down to Drameh to perform at Cardiff, which is a great opportunity, and he will hope to return to Elland Road as an improved player ahead of next season.
