Marcelo Bielsa has delivered his thoughts on the controversy involving Jack Grealish and a fan at the weekend, with the Leeds United boss stating he believes the attack is down to the supporter’s lack of satisfaction with his personal life.

Leeds were in action on Saturday, whilst Aston Villa headed to Birmingham City on Sunday, leaving Bielsa available to watch things develop at St Andrew’s.

Early in the game a Birmingham supporter evaded stewards and ran onto the St Andrew’s pitch, punching Grealish – who would go on to score the only goal in a 1-0 win for Villa - from behind and leaving the midfielder sprawled on the floor.

The incident has been the talking point of the footballing world over the last 24 hours, with Bielsa amongst those to offer his thoughts.

“The person who does the thing we saw yesterday expresses a series of frustrations which are not necessarily linked to football,” he explained to Phil Hay at the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“Because the more satisfied you are with your personal life, the less you need to do this kind of act."

Since yesterday, the attacker, who has been named as Paul Mitchell, has pleaded guilty to assaulting Grealish and invading the pitch at St Andrew's.

Further developments will be expected over the course of the day.

The Verdict

Bielsa has shown to us over the course of this season that he’s a very intelligent man who looks at things in a way that others do not.

He’s done so here and delivers a very ‘Bielsa-like’ answer to the situation.

He, like many, will surely hope this doesn’t become a regular thing in English football.
