Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has hit back at Bristol City boss Lee Johnson’s comments after his side’s 2-0 victory over the Robins at the weekend, reports the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The Whites looked shaky in the first-half, however then scored two quickfire goals via Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez, after City had midfielder Josh Brownhill sent off just before the hour mark.

Johnson then brandished Leeds as “lucky”, saying that the Whites “got away with it”, a statement in which Whites boss Bielsa has swiftly played down.

“It’s a point of view that we have to respect but we should analyse the argument used to reach this conclusion,” Bielsa said.

“I could say that we virtually didn't concede any chances - I don't know any situation that we suffered so for me it's difficult for me to think that we deserved to lose the game.”

The victory at Elland Road was only Leeds’ fourth win in ten league games, and the Whites still remain 3rd in the Championship, sitting just one point behind promotion rivals Middlesbrough, who won 2-1 away at Brentford on Saturday evening.

The Verdict

Johnson probably feels hard done by by the referee after Brownhill’s sending off, which ultimately led to Bristol City’s downfall at Elland Road. To say that Leeds were lucky, I’m not sure about that - they accrued a rate of 63% possession and looked comfortable for large parts.
