Marcelo Bielsa has praised the attitude of Samuel Saiz as the Spaniard made a vital contribution after coming off the bench on Saturday.

The Spaniard, who had a fine start to the season, has been on the bench for the past four games, with Adam Forshaw coming into the side.

However, journalist Phil Hay revealed how Bielsa had said 'it's a mistake to think that substitutes aren't as important as starting players' when looking at his recent decision to drop Saiz.

As well as that, Hay added that the manager had praised the attitude of the 27-year-old who has accepted the decision and done his best to get back in the team.

Saiz will certainly be pushing for a start against Reading tomorrow after a very impressive half-hour against Bristol City last time out.

The former Huesca man came on with the game goalless and his intelligence and creativity was crucial in helping the side eventually break down a stubborn ten-man Bristol City.

The attacking midfielder provided the decisive second goal with a wonderful pass to Pablo Hernandez that sealed the points for the hosts.

The Verdict

It was a big decision for Bielsa to leave out Saiz as despite his poor goals and assists return this season, he is still a very good player for the side.

But, it looks like a good call and you have to praise the player for how he has responded.

Saiz was very good again from the bench on Saturday and will hope to be rewarded with a start tomorrow and a good performance should keep him in the XI.
