Marcelo Bielsa has delivered his verdict on Leeds United’s weekend opponents Reading, outlining their midfield as a specific point of strength that they need to be wary of.

The Whites have managed to turn their fortunes around in the past week as they push for automatic promotion, with great performances away to Brentford and at home to Bristol City, gaining four points while the clubs around them show inconsistencies.

The much-needed return of Kalvin Phillips saw Leeds play far better against two rivals for the top-two and they have now created a three-point gap to third place with 13 games left to go.

It has been outlined that Leeds have a more favourable run-in compared to their rivals as they only face three teams in the current top half of the table so optimism is being justifiably restored amongst the players and club.

Up next is a home clash against Reading, where Leeds will be looking to do the double after a dramatic late win at the Madejski Stadium earlier this season.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Bielsa delivered his verdict on their next opponents, paying specific attention to the midfield. He stated (as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post): “They are a team with very good players, especially in the midfield. They have one creative style of play, they have power in attack.”

Two players that have particularly caught the eye in Reading’s midfield, especially against Leeds, have been Ovie Ejaria and John Swift, with their creativity in the final third causing the Whites problems last time out.

Can you name these Leeds players by looking at their former clubs?

The Verdict:

While it’s a fixture that Leeds will be expected to pick up three points, there are definite danger signs there for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Not many players have managed to cause problems for Kalvin Phillips this season but there were a few occasions at the Madejski where Ejaria managed to spring free from his challenges and cause trouble.

Bielsa also alluded to their attack, with players like George Puscas and Yakou Meite providing the Royals with a lot of ‘power’ in the penalty area.

Leeds will be buoyant following their last two performances and it should be another win if they’re expecting to create daylight between themselves and the chasing pack.
