Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has insisted that he is not disappointed that the club were unable to sign Swansea City winger Daniel James on deadline day, after speaking to Leeds Live.

The 21-year old was desperately close to signing for the Yorkshire club after enduring a medical at Elland Road. however the deal to land the highly-rated wide-man fell through in the 11th hour after Swansea pulled out of the deal.

The Wales international was revealed as a transfer target for Bielsa's men after his name appeared on a computer during the latter's "Spygate" presentation, with reports claiming that Leeds were set to make a bid in the region of £10million for the player.

But, speaking after his side's 3-1 home defeat to Norwich City on Saturday night, Bielsa admitted that he is not disappointed that said deal fell through.

"No, not disappointed - he was coming to the team to be a possibility of the side."

"As I’ve said many times, with Alioski, Clarke, Harrison, all the players who play on the sides we can find the right solution - I can’t deny the fact he would have been another option for our offensive play but I don’t see this as an obstacle for us."

Leeds succumbed to yet another disappointing defeat at the weekend, losing 3-1 to automatic promotion rivals Norwich City in their biggest game of the campaign thus far.

Goals from Mario Vrancic and Teemu Pukki blew the Whites away, as Bielsa's men dropped down to 2nd position in the Sky Bet Championship table, as Leeds succumbed to their fourth defeat in their last six league games.

The Verdict

If I was a Leeds fan, I would be bitterly disappointed and massively concerned about the club's lack of transfer activity, especially after the James deal fell through.

Of course, why the deal fell through was not Leeds' fault whatsoever, but the club had all month to try and wrap up a deal, so in a way it serves them right for being too laid back so to speak.

Their squad depth isn't the greatest right now by any means, and I think Bielsa could regret not bringing in any more players in January.
