Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has revealed that midfielder Kalvin Phillips is set to return to action for his side's match with Brentford on Tuesday night, but attacker Tyler Roberts is set to miss the trip to Griffin Park.

Phillips has missed his side's last three games through suspension after being sent off during Leeds' 1-0 defeat at QPR on the 18th January, but has otherwise been an ever-present when available in the league this season.

That is something that looks set to continue on Tuesday, as speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of that meeting with Brentford, Bielsa was quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post as saying: "Phillips comes back to the team.

"He's always been an important player but in those three matches, he wasn't there we could replace him without feat that he wasn't there. But always counting on him makes our team better."

While Phillips is set to return, one player Leeds will be without is Roberts.

The 21-year-old has been restricted to just 12 league appearances this season - thanks in no small part to injury - and it looks as though he will be left frustrated again in midweek following a blow suffered in Saturday's defeat at Nottingham Forest, as Bielsa revealed: "He (Roberts) is not going to be able to play tomorrow.

"He took a strong kick. It's incredible with this kick that he continued in the match, he proved that he is really engaged with the team and he was a very brave player to continue playing.

"It's a kick in the calf but there is no injury, just a big kick."

That loss at Forest was Leeds' fourth in their last five league games, meaning they go into the game only ahead of the play-off places on goal difference.

Brentford meanwhile are fifth after a 3-2 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday, and would go above Leeds with a win at Griffin Park.

The Verdict

Phillips' return looks set to be a big boost for Leeds.

They have certainly missed his presence in the centre of the park over the past few games, and he too will surely feel as though he has to make up for his sending off on his last appearance for the club.

Having Phillips back also means Ben White can drop deeper into his more natural central defensive position, which ought to strengthen them in that area of the pitch as well, and that too could be crucial considering some of the recent errors they have made.

The news around Roberts meanwhile will likely be a source of disappointment for the club, given that with the lack of goals they are scoring at the minute, they may well have wanted as many attacking available as possible for such a crucial match as this.
