Marc Pugh has claimed that his Hull side could potentially need five wins from their final six games of the season if they are to earn a place in the play-offs come the end of the season.

Nigel Adkins side currently sit 12th in the Championship table, six points adrift of the play-offs heading into that final run in but with a game in hand on some of those above them, and Pugh believes that a shot at the Premier League is still achievable.

Speaking to the Hull Daily Mail about the Tigers' chances of a play-off spot ahead of the first of those six games, at home to Wigan on Wednesday night, Pugh said: “We have got plenty of confidence now going into the game against Wigan. There is a great set of lads who want to achieve something here.

“Who knows what will happen? We know we need to win maybe five of our last six games to have a chance."

The midfielder, who has scored three times in 11 games since joining on from Premier League side Bournemouth in January, added: “Stranger things have happened. I know teams in and around us have to lose as well but we have got nothing to lose. We have to go in with confidence and belief and see what happens."

The Verdict

Hull's run in gives them a real chance of making the top six.

After tonight's meeting with Wigan every team they have to face is still harbouring hopes of a play-off place at the very least, meaning wins for The Tigers would both build their points tally and keep the ones of those around them down.

If they were to manage that, then who knows what can happen in the subsequent lottery.
