Tranmere Rovers have completed the signing of midfielder Marc Laird on a one-year contract.
The free agent was released by Southend United at the end of last season following an injury-hit campaign and becomes Rob Edwards’ sixth summer signing.
The 28 year-old came through the Manchester City academy but left the club without making a first-team appearance. He has since gone on to play most of his career in League One with Millwall and Leyton Orient before joining League Two side Southend last summer following a sucessful loan spell.
Laird had been training with the Tranmere squad over the last week and impressed Edwards enough to earn a contract with the Wirral side.
Edwards told the Tranmere website: “I’m really pleased Marc has agreed to join us.
“He’s shown commitment to the club by coming in and training with us for a week.
“He’s got a great attitude and someone who will add fantastic fitness-levels and kn0w-how to our midfield. He’ll really complement the other players we’ve got in that department.”
