Phil Hay has revealed that Leeds United are confident of retaining Gaetano Berardi until the season’s conclusion, despite the fact the Swiss defender is out of contract at the end of next month.
Leeds have worked tirelessly to tie down first-team members of their squad long-term, but there’s no deal in place for Berardi yet, despite his deal running out at the end of June.
With the Championship season likely to spill well into the summer on the back of a postponement of almost three months, doubt surrounded Berardi’s chances of playing a part.
Quiz: Have Leeds United done these 15 things in the last 10 years? – Yes or no?
Nevertheless, Hay has revealed to The Athletic that Leeds are confident he will still be around for the remaining nine games if they are played, whilst he could also stick around longer-term.
And, on the back of this insight, Leeds’ fans have flooded to Twitter, where they are backing the club to secure the future of Berardi for at least another season…
Bet Berardi would play for a lion bar

Berardi should get either an extra year or added to the coaching team I personally think, every player seems to love him and he gives everything

I think Berardi should get an extra yr. He's done a great job this yr when asked. He deserves it, plus what a horrible time to be an out of contract player. One yr won't break the bank.
