Mansfield Town have completed the signing of Lucas Akins from Burton Albion on a two-and-a half-year deal, the club has confirmed.

The 32-year-old appeared 345 times for the Brewers and scored 71 goals in that time, playing a key role in their shock promotion to the Championship back in the 2015-16 campaign.

He will be reunited with former Albion boss Nigel Clough, who has been in charge at Mansfield since 2020.

The Stags currently sit 7th in League Two, having won nine of their last 10 league outings after a slow start.

Therefore, it is hoped that their new recruit can provide the quality and experience to direct a promotion push in the second half of the season.

Akins, meanwhile, still featured regularly at the Pirelli Stadium this term, scoring three goals and assisting the same amount in 22 matches.

The Verdict:

The acquisition of a forward so well-versed throughout English football can only spell positivity for Clough’s men, as they look to give themselves a good chance of a top six spot.

Only five shy of 100 career goals, Akins clearly boasts pedigree and talent, both of which you would naturally assume will stand out in League Two.

Equally, his wealth of experience spanning across numerous divisions will also be invaluable to have within the camp.
