Leeds United dropped back into third palce in the Championship table this weekend as they lost out to Wigan Athletic at home.

The Whites chucked away a lead and then blew the chance to capitalise on Wigan having ten men to drop back below Sheffield United in what is a tight race for the second automatic promotion spot.

However, while the Championship is a topsy turvy league where you just never know what is going to happen, the manner in which Leeds lost this weekend could well be the biggest factor in the Whites not securing a place in the Premier League.

All clubs lose games, and there is of course still three games to go in the season, but you could see at the end of the game in the way the Leeds players reacted that this was more than just a simple and routine defeat.

Leeds knew if they won this one then the pressure was back on Sheffield United, but that momentum has shifted now, and the Blades will know a win against Hull City on Monday will once again pile the pressure on Marcelo Bielsa's men ahead of their own tie with Brentford on Monday evening.

It's a devastating blow to the hopes of Leeds and their loyal fanbase, who have been superb in cheering their team on this season with some packed houses at the ever brilliant Elland Road.

There is still time and points to be played for of course, but with a tricky tie at Griffin Park on Monday and then a tough home game with Aston Villa to follow, there is just a bit of nerrvousness edging into the hearts of the Leeds fans, which will ultimately transcend onto their players.

Leeds have been brilliant this season, but for all their efforts, they could well have to settle for a play-off place.
