According to the Mirror, Manchester United are set to win the race for Sheffield Wednesday starlet George Hirst in the summer.

The young striker is highly-rated at Hillsborough and is one of the brightest talents in the younger age groups at both the Owls and with England.

Indeed, the forward scored 40 goals last season for club and country in his age group and at 19-years-old he already looks capable of really reaching the highest heights.

And, according to the report, that is more than likely going to be with United.

It appears that the young forward will not sign a new deal with Wednesday with his current contract running out whilst Leicester City were also apparently keen.

The report suggests that the Foxes have missed out on signing him, though, and so it remains to be seen if United now manage to get this deal over the line.

The Verdict

It would obviously be a big move for Hirst to go to Old Trafford but he needs to be wary that he probably won't play too much straightaway.

Part of the reason for him potentially leaving the Owls would surely be to get more first team football but you get the feeling that wouldn't happen with United from the get-go.
