Manchester United’s 4-0 Defeat Against Liverpool Was Humiliating

Published

on

Manchester United hit a new low at the Premier League matchday 30, where they lost 4-0 to their most bitter rivals Liverpool. This was their second loss to the Reds this season and in both of these matches, they haven’t scored a single goal, while conceding a total of 9 goals.

The majority of the people that were betting online were confident about Liverpool’s win, but so were the sportsbooks, as they gave the Reds some very high odds for winning, despite this match being one of the fiercest derbies in the world.

What Was Going On During the Match?

During this fixture, Manchester United we’re lacking in every position and every aspect of the game. Conceding 4 goals, 2 in the first half and 2 in the second, shows that the Red Devils are having some serious setbacks in the defence.

3 days before this match, Manchester United conceded 2 goals against Norwich, which is occupying the last place on the table. Rangnick thought that starting the match with 5 defenders will hold back Liverpool’s amazing attacking players, but that didn’t go as planned.

The midfield was also a disaster as Manchester United has managed to complete only 258 successful passes, which is 3 times lower than Liverpool’s successful passes. As for the attacking part, where Cristiano Ronaldo was absent, the Red Devils have only had 2 attempts for scoring, where only one went towards the goal.

On the other hand, Liverpool was dominating the whole match, right from the beginning. The first goal was scored very early on in the match in the 5th minute, while the second came after the 22nd minute. Rangnick’s defensive approach was destroyed in the first quarter of the match.

The Reds hold the bold in their possession the whole match, where at the end they had 72% in total. As for Liverpool’s attack, they’ve once again proved that they are amongst, if not the best team in the world when it comes to scoring goals.

Liverpool managed to score 4 out of the 5 shots that they took towards De Gea’s goal. All of this has proven once again that Liverpool is a few levels above Manchester United, and the Red Devils have some serious troubles in almost every part of their game.

How Did the Manchester United Players Perform?

When a team loses 4-0 that means that the whole squad failed with its duties. In the defence, Phil Jones wasn’t at the level that he was a few years ago, but that is understandable as he was injured for more than a year and needs time to reach a form.

The only one to blame here is the manager, as he shouldn’t have started a derby match with a player who has played only 2 matches this season. Harry Maguire had another awful performance this season. He was indecisive, bad in positioning, and made some very awful passes.

In the midfield, Nemanja Matic was somewhat decent on the ball but managed to give it away on several occasions. Pogba came off in the 10th minute and was substituted by Lingard, who didn’t do anything to impact the game.

Bruno Fernandes was totally misplaced by the manager as he began the game as a false nine but then started to drop deeper. Sancho was pretty decent on the pitch, as he took players on and had a few efforts on goal.

Marcus Rashford was totally isolated during the game and showed very little of his abilities. Elanga had trouble getting the ball, but he is not the one to blame as he was the youngest player on the pitch.

Did This Loss End Manchester United’s Champion League Pursuit?

As things are shaping up at the moment, Manchester United have very little chance of ending up in the Champions League spots. Mathematically there is still a chance, but realistically the Red Devils are totally lost at the moment and the teams before them are showing much more quality.

If Manchester United continues with their dreadful performances, they will even lose the Europa League spot to West Ham and end up in the much undesirable Europa Conference League, where they will compete against the best middle placed teams in Europe.
