Premier League side Manchester United are interested in signing Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, according to reports from The Sun.

The 23-year-old has been an everpresent in the Championship for the Whites this season, and has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the league under Marcelo Bielsa.

The Argentine has transformed the homegrown star from an attacking midfielder to a commanding, solid defensive midfielder since he walked through the doors at Elland Road last summer.

Amid interest from the likes of Aston Villa and Tottenham in the summer, Phillips has recently signed a new five-year deal at Elland Road having established himself as their most important player under Bielsa.

But according to reports from The Sun, Leeds' bitter rivals Manchester United are interested in signing Phillips, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to continue to add young, British talent to his squad.

It is claimed that Man United assistant boss, Mike Phelan, watched Phillips in action as he scored the winning goal against Birmingham a fortnight ago.

Red Devils coach Kieran McKenna is also believed to have watched Phillips in action in the 1-1 draw with Preston North End at Deepdale in midweek.

Having rejected a bid of around £27m off Spurs for Phillips in the summer, he is a player that Leeds will be desperate to keep.

The Verdict

This is an outstanding piece of transfer news, and surely Kalvin Phillips won't be leaving Leeds for Manchester United?

Rivalry aside, Phillips loves Leeds United and clearly sees his future at Elland Road after only recently signing a new five-year deal.

I just cannot see this move happening - the uproar would be incredible if he did make the move to Old Trafford in January.
