Premier League giants Manchester United have submitted a £7million bid for Stoke City defender Nathan Collins, according to reports from Football Insider.

The youngster was given a chance to impress in the first-team under Nathan Jones towards the final stages of the campaign, after catching the eye in the Potters' academy.

The Irishman played three times for Jones' side, with the central defender making his first league start for the Staffordshire club in a 1-0 defeat against Middlesbrough last month.

The 18-year-old has now caught the eye of Manchester United, who according to Football Insider, have tabled a £7million bid for the defender due to the influence of Darren Fletcher.

The Scot will know Collins having played at the bet365 Stadium this season, and will look to advise Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Norwegian looks to rebuild his squad this summer.

The Red Devils are also reportedly closing in on the signing of Dan James from Swansea City, for a reported fee of £15million.

The Verdict

Collins really impressed me in his few appearances for Stoke during the latter stages of the season, so it comes as no surprise to see him linked with a move to a team like United.

There has been speculation regarding Darren Fletcher and a potential return to United as their director of football, but regardless of whether that is official or not, it looks like he is still helping his old club out.

It’s a big few years for United, as Solskjaer looks to change the way they go about things in the transfer window after many dismal years of late.
