Swansea City are preparing a loan move for Ethan Laird, according to reports from Teamtalk.

The Manchester United man is hoping to secure a short-term switch away as he looks to guarantee himself a more regular opportunity of first team football.

The 19-year-old spent last season on loan with League One side MK Dons where he made quite an impression after making 25 appearances for the club and providing four assists in that time as well.

That loan spell saw him thrive under the leadership of Russell Martin, the man who is now in the hotseat at the Liberty Stadium.

Martin knows Laird particularly well after working together last term and it seems that this could be a pivotal factor with the reports claiming that Manchester United are prepared to sanction the loan switch to the Championship club.

Despite his tender years, Laird has a decent amount of first team experience under his belt already having featured on 30 occasions for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, a clear indication that he's a part of the long-term plans at Old Trafford.

However with a year of Championship football under his belt there's no doubt that the right-back will be in a much stronger position to challenge for a role in United's squad in years to come.

The verdict

This could be a great move for Swansea City.

Ethan Laird is a player of undoubted potential, but more than that, he's someone who could make a real impact straight away.

The 19-year-old has pace and power to burn and would be a huge asset for Russell Martin's side as he looks to bring his full-backs into their attacking moves, something that could cause opposition defences a lot of problems.

He's struggling with an injury right now but if he can prove his fitness then I have a good feeling about this deal.
