Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Rochdale starlet Daniel Adshead, according to The Mirror.

The 16-year-old already has a handful of first-team games under his belt despite his tender age and was being watched by a host of Premier League sides.

But it appears that Manchester United have won the race for Adshead with the youngster set to make the short trip from Rochdale to Old Trafford.

Last September, Adshead became Rochdale's youngest ever debutant at the age of 16 years and 17 days, playing 90 minutes in a Checkatrade Trophy clash with bitter rivals Bury.

The young midfielder picked up an assist in that game and now he has nine first-team outings to his name, including a 15-minute cameo against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup.

Manchester United ran the rule over Adshead in a behind-closed-doors friendly recently and after a thoroughly impressive performance, the Red Devils have been convinced to splash £1m for the talented teenager.

The Verdict

With first-team experience already at the age of 16, it is clear that Adshead is destined for stardom.

Predominantly a ball-playing central midfielder, he is able to pick passes and do both the defensive and attacking duties required of him in the middle of the park.

Adshead is several years away from the Man United first-team picture, but he certainly has the potential to reach that level one day.
