Leeds United recently completed the signing of Jean-Kevin Augustin, who arrives from RB Leipzig on loan until the end of this year's campaign.

The Whites have the option of making that loan deal a permanent one at the end of the season though, which seems as though it could be dependent on whether Leeds are to win promotion into the Premier League.

The deal seemed to be completed in a relatively short space of time after The Athletic's Phil Hay revealed that Marcelo Bielsa's side were eyeing a move for the striker on Friday 24th January.

But it has recently been revealed by The Athletic's David Ornstein that Premier League giants Manchester United made an enquiry for Augustin, but the move to Leeds was too advanced and 'impressive' for the striker to turn down.

Phil Hay went on to state that the report was true, which will certainly please the Elland Road faithful.

Augustin had previously been on loan with French side AS Monaco, but struggled for consistent game time, as he made 13 appearances this season.

So, it didn't come as a surprise to see him changing clubs in this month's transfer window, as he went in search of regular minutes for the rest of this year's campaign.

Leeds are currently sat second in the Championship table, and will be hoping that Augustin can challenge Patrick Bamford for his starting spot in the near future.

He could be in line to make his Leeds debut on Tuesday when they take on play-off chasing Millwall at Elland Road, in a game where they'll be keen to end their three-game winless run.

The Verdict:

I'm stunned by this to be honest.

Manchester United are a worldwide-known club, and for Augustin to reportedly turn them down in favour of a move to Leeds, shows how far the Whites have come under Marcelo Bielsa.

Times are changing for the better with the Yorkshire-based club, and you have to feel as though Augustin could prove to be the missing piece in their promotion jigsaw this season.

But Augustin is much more likely to get regular minutes under his belt for Leeds this season, as he'd surely be behind both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford in the pecking order at Old Trafford.

The Elland Road faithful will absolutely love this latest reveal, as it shows that they have got one over on one of their fiercest rivals.
