Manchester United are interested in signing two young Nottingham Forest players, according to The Daily Mail's Live Transfer Blog [Monday 14th May, 11:25AM].

Matthew Bondswell and Alex Mighten are both on Man United's radar.

The Red Devils have opened talks with Bondswell after the young left-back failed to agree terms over a professional contract at Nottingham Forest.

The 16-year-old is also wanted by Southampton but Man United are trying to steal a march on their rivals and offer him a deal.

It is believed that Man United are in pole position to capture the England youth international, who would still cost a compensation fee despite being out of contract.

Mighten is also being watched by Man United as they weigh up a move for him as well.

The 16-year-old is highly-rated by Forest, who believe he will sign professional terms with the club.

But they will have to fend off interest from the Premier League giants, who have a keen interest in the young winger.

Nottingham Forest have a good track record of developing young players and moving them from the academy to the first-team.

In recent years, the likes of Ben Brereton, Joe Worrall, Jordan Smith, Matty Cash and Ben Osborn have all featured regularly for the senior side at Forest.

The Verdict

These players will look at the aforementioned examples of academy players being handed first-team opportunities and surely this must appeal to them.

For any young player coming through, it is a question of whether they can step up from youth level to senior level.

Bondswell and Mighten are both highly regarded by Forest but they need to ensure that they make the right career move this summer because it is coming up to a crucial time in their development, where they either sink or float.
