Manchester United are targeting a move for Norwich City defender Max Aarons in the January transfer window, a report from The Express has claimed.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is apparently keen to strengthen his side at right-back when the market reopens on Friday, and it now appears as though he has identified a potential target to do that with.

According to the latest reports, United are targeting a move for Aarons to fill that role on the right of their defence, providing competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, something Solksjaer seemingly feels his squad is currently lacking.

It is thought that Aarons is a top target for United in January, as they look to build on their recent good form that has seen them climb to second in the Premier League.

Both Tottenham and Arsenal were apparently priced out of a move for Aarons in the summer window, when Barcelona were also linked with a move for the Norwich academy graduate.

Can you remember if these 20 things happened to Norwich in 2020?

Since making his debut for the Canaries in 2018, Aarons has made a total of 105 appearances in all competitions for the current Championship league leaders, scoring four goals in that time.

As things stand, there are still three-and-a-half years remaining on Aarons' contract with Norwich, securing his future at Carrow Road until the end of the 2023/24 season, putting them in a strong position to negotiate any offer that comes in for the right-back.

The Verdict

This could be a really decent signing for United to make in January.

The Old Trafford club do not have a great deal of cover for Wan-Bissaka on the right-hand side of their defence, something they need to address if they are to compete on numerous fronts going forward.

Given he impressed for a struggling Norwich side in the Premier League last season, you do feel as though Aarons could have the ability to fill that role.

However, Norwich are not going to want to let Aarons go in January, given how important he could be to their attempts to return to the Premier League, meaning that along with his contract situation, you feel it will take a big offer from United to prise him away from Carrow Road in January.
