The Verdict

With the player's contract set to expire in 2022, this could well be a transfer saga that is very much heading towards an intriguing high point as the campaign progresses.

Realistically speaking, if Watford can achieve their aim of an instant return to the Premier League, they could well have Garner eating out of the palm of their hand come next summer.

United's summer addition of Donny van de Beek from Ajax has only added to the amount of competition for places within the club's midfield ranks, potentially blocking Garner's progress even further down the line.

It is certainly a case of watch this space from a Watford perspective as the midfielder's contract continues to tick down.
