ASton Villa midfielder Jack Grealish is being targeted as a long-term prospect by Manchester United, according to The Sun.

The English midfielder was the best player for Villa in the Play-Off Final as he tried to find a way back into the game for his team sometimes single-handedly. He went on a slaloming run in the second half which took him past multiple defenders before the shot was saved by Marcus Bettinelli.

Unfortunately, most of the game was spent winning fouls as the Cottagers stopped him from gaining momentum with some tactical fouls. Denis Odoi paid for this with a red card after two offences. This gave Villa a slight advantage, but they were unable to capitalise on that.

His performances this season have obviously done enough to impress Manchester United, though. In 30 league appearances, he scored three goals and six assists. However, it's his driving runs from deep which are key because they open up low blocks effectively, with an average of three successful dribbles per game showing that.

The Verdict

It would take him a while to break into the first-team even though he is talented because United have a number of options in the midfield areas. This would still be a significant step up in his career, though, even if he did get sent out on loan for his first season.

Villa could also do with a large transfer fee to help bolster the squad because they don't currently have much leeway within FFP regulations. They would lose a star player, but it could give them the funds to consistently challenge for promotion and eventually return to the top division.
