Manchester United have been keeping a close eye on their own defender Axel Tuanzebe ahead of potentially promoting him to first team duties next season.
Tuanzebe has been enjoying a decent spell at Aston Villa this season and his form has clearly caught the eye of Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has had to sit back see his team put in some shocking defensive displays of late.
According to Alan Nixon, the versatile defender is being watched closely by those who matter at Old Trafford, and he could well be given his chance next season under Solskjaer.
Tuanzebe will of course be reliant on what happens in the transfer window over the summer for United, who are expected to make some big splashes in the market, especially in defence as the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones struggle to get into any sort of form.
Villa themselves are hoping to land a place back in the Premier League after a superb 11 match unbeaten run has seen them secure a play-off spot.
Tuanzebe joined the Villans in the summer and has proved himself to be a valuable player to Dean Smith over the course of the campaign, and Villa are likely to be interested in landing the defender on a permanent basis if they can indeed secure promotion.
I can’t see United playing Tuanzebe next season regardless of this remark, and I think he’d be better off at Villa in all honesty.
United will spend and spend big in the summer, meaning it’s hard to see really where Tuanzebe fits in.
However, if he does get his chance, he has to seize it, and if any manager is going to give him that chance it will be Solskjaer.
