Manchester United are considering a summer move for Ruben Neves, as Jose Mourinho looks to replace Ander Herrera, who could be on the move back to Spain.

According to reports from El Gol Digital, the Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder has been highlighted as a potential replacement for Herrera, who is attracting interest from Athletico Madrid ahead of the summer.

Neves only arrived at Molineux during the summer transfer window, linking up with Wolves in a deal worth over £15m – a club record – and any potential deal that sees the midfielder depart will command a much higher transfer fee.

The Portuguese midfielder has helped Nuno Espirito Santo’s side into pole position in the race for promotion in the Sky Bet Championship, making 32 appearances and scoring four goals.

The 20-year-old’s performances have been the driving force behind Wolves’ success this season, leading Nuno’s side to the top of the Championship table with just 12 fixtures of the campaign remaining.

Nuno is currently without Neves, who is serving a two-match suspension, with Wolves losing 2-0 to Fulham last weekend as Neves served the first game of his ban.

The midfielder is set to miss tomorrow’s clash with Reading, but will return for the midweek trip to Elland Road to face Leeds.

The Verdict

Neves has been magnificent for Wolves this season in the Championship, and it is little surprise to see some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs taking a look at the young midfielder.

Over the course of this season, Neves has produced performances beyond his years, which is something that the likes of Man United will be well aware of.

With Wolves seemingly heading for the Premier League, Neves will get his shot at top-flight football next year, however, if Man United do come calling, it will be hard for the midfielder to ignore their interest.
