Manchester United are the latest club to join the race for Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri, according to The Sun.

Stoke are prepared for the sale of Shaqiri, who reportedly has a £12m release clause.

The Switzerland international, who recently featured for his country at the World Cup finals in Russia, is interested in a move back to the Premier League following Stoke's relegation and he is not short of suitors.

Jose Mourinho is just one of many Premier League managers weighing up a swoop for the left-footed wide man, who picked up eight goals and seven assists for the Potters in the top flight last term before hitting one goal and one assist for the Swiss in the World Cup.

Southampton and Liverpool have been linked with the 26-year-old, while Everton, West Ham United and Crystal Palace were also keen at some point earlier in the window.

Now that Switzerland are out of the World Cup - following a loss to Sweden - Shaqiri's future is likely to be resolved soon.

The Verdict

Shaqiri would be a decent back-up choice for Man United but is unlikely to be playing regular football there.

A move to somewhere like Everton, Southampton or West Ham would be more realistic if he wants to play a starring role.

But if the former Inter Milan playmaker wants to kick on and compete for trophies now, a move to Liverpool or Man United would be the best for his career.
