Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo has sent a personal message to Swansea City midfielder George Byers after he shared an update on his season-ending injury.

The 23 year-old limped out of the action against Derby County just over a week ago with manager Steve Cooper later confirming that the ankle sprain would keep him out until the 2020/21 campaign, recently undergoing surgery.

QUIZ: How much can you remember about Swansea’s 2020 so far?

He had been a regular in Cooper's side this season, racking up 29 appearances in the Championship, scoring twice in that time, as he helped the Swans push for a place in the play-offs.

Igahlo and Byers know eachother from when they were both plying their trade at Vicarage Road with Watford, although Byers left for Swansea in the summer of 2016 having made just one appearance for the Hornets.

Ighalo, on the other hand, netted 40 goals in 100 games for the club and he commented below Byers' Instagram update, saying simply: "Get well soon bro."

The Nigerian front man made the shock move to United in the January transfer window, moving from China to aid Ole Gunnar Soljskaer with his severe injury problems in attack.

The verdict

This is a nice touch from Ighalo and I am sure it will give Byers a boost knowing that the striker is still following his progress from their Watford days.

Ighalo is no stranger to injuries himself and I am sure that the Swansea man will now be eager to bounce back as soon as possible and maybe even playing against his former teammate in the top-flight soon.
