Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has urged Premier League champions Manchester City to move for on-loan Whites centre-back Ben White.

The 22-year-old joined the Yorkshire club on a season-long loan from Brighton in the summer and has been fantastic so far–playing a key role in their ascent to second in the Championship.

White was given the difficult job of replacing departed centre-back Pontus Jansson in a move that now looks a masterstroke.

The central defender has looked comfortable at the heart of Marcelo Bielsa's backline, helping Leeds to concede the fewest goals and keep the most clean sheets in the Championship.

White was voted the PFA Fans' Championship Player of the Month for August, his first month in the division, and has been so much more than just a solid defender.

His ability on the ball has set him apart–as evidenced by the fact he has made the most passes in the squad (1293) at a success rate of 84.9%.

White has been linked to Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea already this season, while it has been reported that Brighton may find a £25 million offer hard to resist.

Speaking to Football Insider, Mills suggested that he didn't think that such a price was too much to pay for the defender.

He said: "People are always looking at potential and yeah you can buy a player for £25 million.

“I’ve said Man City should be looking at him, without a shadow of a doubt, he’s got real quality.

“I’d snap him up tomorrow."

White's next test is set to come against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

The Verdict

White has been fantastic for Leeds this season. I felt it looked a risk giving him so much responsibility but it now seems a masterstroke by Bielsa.

He certainly looks like a player destined for a long Premier League career and with Manchester City suffering from something of a centre-back crisis at the moment, it's hard to disagree with Mills.

You feel the 22-year-old's ball-playing ability would make him well suited to Pep Guardiola's side.
