Manchester City talent closing in on another Championship spell

Blackburn Rovers are reportedly close to agreeing a loan deal for Manchester City youngster Tosin Adarabioyo for the upcoming season.

According to the Lancashire Telegraph, Tony Mowbray is looking to strengthen his options in central defence for the 2019/20 campaign, with Adarabioyo firmly on the radar at Ewood Park.

The 21-year-old is on the books at the Etihad Stadium, but is yet to make a league appearance for the Premier League Champions, although he has managed eight outings in all other competitions, including two starts in the Champions League.

Last season, Adarabioyo was part of the West Bromwich Albion squad that reached the Championship play-off semi-finals, with Darren Moore the manager who took the defender to the Hawthorns.

In total, the City youngster made 36 appearances across all competitions for the Baggies, 30 of which came in the Championship and brought two assists.

Moore and Jimmy Shan – who replaced the former in the dugout from March – used Adarabioyo in both central defence and at right-back over the course of his spell with West Brom, with Albion often changing between a three-man and a four-man defence.

Adarabioyo’s suitors, Blackburn, are looking to build on last season’s 15th placed finish during their second campaign back in the Championship.

The Verdict

The Premier League loan market is so important for Championship clubs these days, and Blackburn are yet to make a splash there this summer.

Signing Adarabioyo on loan would be a solid coup for Rovers, and a year with West Brom across the Championship will have done the player some good.

However, he can’t let his career stall at City, he needs to get out elsewhere and make an impact.

Blackburn could be ideal for him; Mowbray is short on defenders and game time will not be hard to come by at Ewood Park.
