Burton Albion are set to sign goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu on loan from Manchester City next season, a report from a print edition of The Sun (16/05, p59) has claimed.

Bazunu spent last season on loan at Rochdale, where he made 32 appearances in all competitions, although he was unable to prevent the club suffering relegation to League Two.

Now though, it seems as though the 19-year-old is set to be back in the third-tier of English football again next season.

According to this latest update, Bazunu is now set to join Burton on loan for the 2021/22, as he continues to build his first-team experience away from the Etihad.

It is thought that City are keen for the teenager to continue his development in League One, having been pleased with what they saw from him at Rochdale in the season just gone.

For their part, Burton finished 16th in League One last season, thanks to a remarkable turnaround following the reappointment of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink earlier this year.

Bazunu is yet to make his senior debut for City, having joined the club from Shamrock Rovers in 2019.

The Verdict

This could be a decent move for all parties concerned.

For Bazunu, it gives him a chance to play regular senior football once again next season, something he is unlikely to get if he remains at City during that period.

City meanwhile, get to see a young player who they have under contract for several more years continue his development, putting the club in a strong position to either use him, or sell him on for a decent fee in the future.

Burton are also set to benefit here, given they will be getting a promising goalkeeper who ought to be able to help them push on next season, after a strong end to the most recent campaign.
