Current Premier League champions Manchester City are closing in on the six-figure swoop of Sunderland youngster Morten Spencer, according to reports from The Sun.

The 14-year old has emerged as a very talented youngster at the Stadium of Light after impressing in the Black Cats' youth set-up, and was called up to the England under-15 squad at the beginning of this season.

But it looks as if the impressive youngster may not be on the Black Cats' books for too much longer, with Premier League champions Manchester City reportedly closing in on the signature of the starlet, who plays as either an attacking midfielder or left winger.

The Citizens will have to pay a hefty compensation fee for the youngster, with the fee believed to be around £200,000 - with the Black Cats set to demand that they are entitled to a portion of future profits and sell-on clauses.

Pep Guardiola's scouts are believed to be under orders by the board to bring in homegrown talent, and have also been linked with a move to sign Leeds United's Jack Clarke in recent times.

Sunderland currently sit 4th in League One after winning just one of their last five league games.

The Verdict

This is a very surprising development to say the least, for a 14-year old to be worth that much already shows just how much of a talent he could turn out to be.

Sunderland's academy has produced a host of talented players over the years, with the likes of Jordan Pickford and Josh Maja the most recent players to depart the club.

Of course, Sunderland would want to keep their youngsters at the club, but a move to Manchester City would surely be too much to turn down.
