Sheffield United's on-loan Manchester City midfielder Tommy Doyle says he is keen to add more goals and assists to his game in the second half of this season.

Doyle joined the Blades on a season long loan from the Premier League champions back in the summer transfer window, following an impressive spell in the Championship with Cardiff earlier in the year.

Since making the move to Bramall Lane, Doyle has made 14 appearances in all competitions, helping his loan side to second place in the current Championship standings.

However, the 21-year-old is yet to score his first goal for Paul Heckingbottom's side, while he is only provided one assist in that time.

Now it seems as though that tally, is something that the midfielder is desperate to improve sooner rather than later.

Speaking to Yorkshire Live about his aims for the second half of the season with Sheffield United, Doyle said: "I have played enough games now for this team to understand what the manager wants, what the lads want.

"They understand what my attributes are and it's just a matter of time before it all clicks fully and I maybe start scoring a few more goals and get a few more assists.

"I think physically I have got better and become a better player off that. The running you have to do is very intense but my body is now used to that.

"For me I have never been a natural goalscorer but I feel I should score a lot more than what I do. It frustrates me because I will do it all the time in training but for whatever reason I don't find myself in those positions on a weekend.

"I think that's another learning curve for me, maybe to arrive at a better time, shoot more from distance.

"The thing for me at the moment is about goals and assists and adding a few more to my game, but on the defensive side as well it's about being a complete player and I am trying to build on that.

"I have been knocking on the door [for a goal], so hopefully the next one now goes in."

Prior to his move to Sheffield United, Doyle had scored three goals in 34 games in his senior career for Manchester City, and in loan spells with Hamburg and Cardiff.

The Verdict

It would certainly be a boost for Sheffield United if Doyle adds some more goals and assists to his game.

The Blades are already looking like a potential force to be reckoned with in the promotion race, with the likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Oli McBurnie leading the way in terms of goals.

If the likes of Doyle were to start to chip in with goals of their own, that would certainly ease some of the pressure on that duo, and give Heckingbottom's side a better chance of picking up results when those two do not fire.

Indeed, this is exactly the sort of thing that the midfielder has come to Sheffield United to learn, so it would surely be good for all parties if he was to add that to his game.
