Manchester City are the latest Premier League club to express an interest in Middlesbrough ace Ben Gibson, according to a recent report.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Manchester City are mulling over whether to make a bid for Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson before the summer transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.

Pep Guardiola could make a move after keeping his tabs on Ben Gibson for a while.

Gibson is yet to secure a move away from Middlesbrough despite there being plenty of interest in him.

West Bromwich Albion have made formal offers for Boro but have been frustrated so far.

The Daily Mail reports that their top bid of up to £20m has been rejected by Middlesbrough as they are desperate to keep their academy product and prize asset at the club for their Championship campaign.

The 24-year-old played in Middlesbrough's first league game of the season as they lost 1-0 to Wolves.

After a fantastic season on a personal level in the Premier League - in which Gibson stood out despite Boro's relegation - the left-footed centre half was called up by England.

He is yet to make his senior debut for England but might fancy a Premier League move if he harbours ambitions of retaining his place in Gareth Southgate's squad.

Manchester City are looking at the former England under-21 international as they aim to bring in more English players to meet FA regulations.

The Verdict

With the World Cup coming up next summer, a move to the Premier League is the most sensible short-term option for Ben Gibson.

However, he is a boyhood Boro fan and knows the club very well.

With Middlesbrough holding firm on their asking price, Gibson will be torn when deciding what to do.

If the 24-year-old does make a move to the Premier League, he should go to a mid-table team rather than Manchester City as he'd be guaranteed more game time.
