Manchester City are closing in on highly-rated Fulham winger Patrick Roberts, according to the Telegraph.
City are keen on bringing in English talent this summer as they only have three players in their squad classed as home grown in Joe Hart, Gael Clichy and Richard Wright. They’re also targeting Raheem Sterling as well as Roberts.
The Guardian reported yesterday that Fulham had rejected a £5 million offer for the England Under-19 international, but the Telegraph understands that the Citizens are ready with a new bid that will leave the Cottagers little option but to accept the offer.
City boss Manuel Pellegrini plans to loan him out, possibly to a club abroad, but it is understood that it looks unlikely that Roberts will be returning to Fulham on loan for the season.
Roberts made 17 appearances for Fulham last year and is seen as one of the brightest young stars in English football. He had previously been a target for Manchester United and Liverpool, but that interest has now died down.
