Manchester City have reached an agreement with Millwall to sign teenage winger Samuel Edozie in a deal that could be worth over £1m in the years to come.

The 16-year-old attacker is highly-rated and has been a key player for the Lions in their youth team, with his form catching the eye.

Therefore, Millwall had moved to get Edozie to sign scholarship terms as they looked to fend off interest from some of the biggest clubs in the country who had been monitoring his situation.

However, South London Press have revealed that it became clear the player wanted to leave the club so the Londoners then set about getting the best package for Edozie.

And, that appears to have come from the Premier League champions, with the report explaining that City have seen off competition from Chelsea to land the youngster.

They state that a ‘high six-figure sum’ has been agreed between the clubs and that could rise to over £1m if certain clauses are met, a fairly significant fee given the players age.

The Verdict

This is a real blow for Millwall who will be gutted to lose such an exciting young player.

But, there’s no doubt that they’ve got a good fee for Edozie given how young he is and that’s all the club can do in this situation.

Unfortunately for Championship sides they are vulnerable to losing their best players and it must be a real frustration.

As for Edozie, the chance to move to such a top club is obviously going to appeal and it will be interesting to see how his career develops now as he clearly has a lot of talent.
