Manchester City forward Lukas Nmecha looks set to depart the club on loan again this summer, with Wigan Athletic believed to be interested in signing the 20-year-old.

Reports from reputable journalist Alan Nixon claim that the Latics are among a host of clubs vying for his services, though it is claimed that the forward would prefer a move to Germany.

Nmecha endured his first loan move away from the Etihad Stadium last season, signing for Preston North End on loan for the season and playing an important role in their push for the play-offs.

The young forward scored four goals in 41 league appearances for Alex Neil's side, with 24 of those coming as starting appearances.

Having netted frequently for City's youth team over the last few years, Nmecha will be hoping to gain regular game-time elsewhere on loan this summer, and he will also be looking to score more goals than he did at Deepdale.

Wigan have been relatively active in the transfer window thus far, but with former loanee Leon Clarke returning to Sheffield United, the addition of a new striker certainly wouldn't go amiss.

The Verdict

I think Nmecha will be looking to prove a point after a somewhat average spell at Preston last year.

He is a real handful up front and caused real problems for opposition defences, but the goals are lacking in his game, so he needs to find the right place to play his football next season.

If he believes that that place is in Germany, then Wigan's chances of signing him will have decreased for sure.

The Latics do need another strong, powerful forward though, and he would definitely be that man.
