Swansea City boss Steve Cooper is said to still be on the list of candidates that Sheffield United are considering to replace the departed Chris Wilder at Bramall Lane, with Yorkshire Live confirming that the Welshman is part of a five man list.

Cooper has once again worked wonders at the Liberty Stadium and as a result has led the Swans to a second successive play-off appearance after the Welsh outfit finished inside the top six.

Naturally his endeavours at the Sky Bet Championship side have not gone unnoticed and as a result, the Blades are said to be weighing up a summer move for the 41-year-old after they dispensed of Wilder almost two months ago following a terrible run of form which has resulted in their relegation from the Premier League being confirmed.

Reports linking Cooper with the top job at the South Yorkshire side are nothing new, with Wilder himself said to have recommended the young coach as his successor.

The Pontypridd born coach took over at Swansea back in the summer of 2019 and has a contract at the Liberty Stadium which expires in the summer of 2022.

The Verdict

These links will be of no surprise to anyone as Cooper has done a fantastic job at Swansea since moving to the club almost two years ago.

He is still a young and up and coming coach, which is sure to be a factor which appeals to the powers that be at Sheffield United as they look to finally replace Wilder.

As long as the Welshman is successful with his current side, there will always be such links popping up and if anything, it's testament to his great work.

For now his focus will undoubtedly be on getting the Swans back to the Premier League but this will be a saga that will be worth keeping an eye on over the coming months if the Welsh side does miss out on promotion again.
