Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert has challenged QPR to come up with the money to buy winger Alan Judge or move on, after the Championship side's second bid for the player was rejected.

Rangers have already made two bids for Judge - thought to be worth £250,000 and £450,000 - in the summer transfer window, both of which have been rebuffed by the League One side.

Lambert also recently admitted that Judge was keen to make the move back to the Championship with QPR, although that doesn't seem to have affected his stance over the player's potential move away from Portman Road.

Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times about QPR's interest in Judge, Lambert said: "An offer has been made that is nowhere near what Marcus (Evans, Ipswich chairman and owner) is looking for so there's no real news on that side of it.

"The ball's in QPR's court now. They are trying to do something but it's nowhere near the level Ipswich are looking at."

Discussing Judge's response to the speculation around him, Lambert added: "Judgey trains well and there's no problems there.

"He wants to have a chance to speak with them but he won't have that chance unless the two clubs agree something."

Judge only joined Ipswich from Brentford on a short term contract in January, making 19 appearances for the club as they were relegated from the Championship after 17 straight seasons in the division.

The Ireland international then signed a new deal with Ipswich in April, tying him to Portman Road until the summer of 2021.

The Verdict

I think this is the right approach to take from Lambert.

Judge's experience and ability could be crucial for Ipswich as they look to make a swift return to the Championship next season, so you can't blame the Tractor Boys hierarchy for being reluctant to let him go easily.

Given there are still two years remaining on the winger's contract at Portman Road, Ipswich are still in the strong position to negotiate any offers that come in for Judge, so it is little surprise that they are ready to play hardball with QPR over a move for the Irishman.

That Judge is continuing to get his head down and train is testament to his attitude, although you wonder if he may be regretting signing the type of contract that he did at Ipswich earlier in the year.
