With Everton boss Frank Lampard wanting to sign a new striker this window, the former Chelsea man has been lining up a bid for Viktor Gyokeres according to the Daily Mail.

However, Coventry manager Mark Robins has now spoken to Coventry Live about the player and has insisted that there is 'zero truth' in the reports that say talks between the striker and the Toffees are underway, and that the creators of those reports are 'idiots'.

Everton had a bad season in the Premier League last time around and were very nearly relegated down to the Championship. However, club boss Frank Lampard managed to keep the team in the top flight and now wants to ensure his side push on in the division this campaign.

With the Toffees having sold Richarlison to Tottenham though and with Dominic Calvert-Lewin injured, it means they could another few signings upfront. One of the names that the club want to try and sign then to play in that position is Viktor Gyokeres.

The Coventry player signed on a permanent deal from Brighton last summer and had an incredible season in the Championship. In 45 league games, the player managed a haul of 17 goals and five assists, averaging 0.55 goals or assists per 90 minutes.

It means Everton are now wanting to try and sign him up in a transfer deal of their own according to these reports - but when asked about the Toffees wanting to sign Gyokeres by Coventry Live, boss Mark Robins has rubbished those reports. Speaking about it, the manager said: "I think this is what you get in the window, idiots talking rubbish and there’s absolutely zero truth in things. So as far as I know there’s nothing in that.

“I think that people are up to no good. There are a lot of mischief makers at this time of year so we have just got to put it down to that."

The Verdict

If Coventry City were to sell Viktor Gyokeres, it would be a blow to the club considering how much of a key player he is and the goals the player can score in the Championship.

He was a first-team regular during the last campaign and was one of the main reasons why the Sky Blues looked like they could get into the play-off places. With Mark Robins wanting his team to be near the top six again, selling on the striker would mean they lose a lot of goals in their first-team squad.

However, for Everton, the signing of a player like Gyokeres could be a shrewd move. He is young and has the potential to get even better, with the player already capable of scoring plenty in England as he proved last season. If he could play regularly in the Premier League, the striker could prove to be a very good striking option.

However, Mark Robins has stated that these reports are rubbish - and that should be music to the ears of Coventry fans who won't want the player to leave the club this transfer window.
