Grant McCann believes that Luton Town will be promoted to the Championship "quite comfortably", after they demolished his Doncaster Rovers side 4-0 at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.

Goals from Pelly Ruddock; Danny Hylton; Kazenga LuaLua and Luke Berry secured an emphatic win for The Hatters over McCann's play-off chasers to move them nine points clear at the top of League One with seven games of the season remaining for the majority of the division.

Speaking after the game, McCann told Luton Today: "We were miles off the pace all game really, from minute one we were on the back foot, we were second best all over the field.

"Luton are a top, top side and they’ll reach the Championship quite comfortably, but we were absolutely nowhere near it."

Having opened the scoring, Ruddock in particular was singled out for praise by McCann, with the Rovers boss adding: “We couldn't cope with Pelly-Ruddock running the game and we got disjointed.

“I wasn’t happy with the way we lacked a hunger and a desire to go out and get a result here."

The verdict

With Luton's unbeaten run now at an incredible 26 games it is hard to disagree with McCann's claim. Even a change of manager hasn't been able to break their stride this season, and with a relatively good run in, it seems like only a matter of time before Luton are celebrating back to back promotions.
