Reading manager Jaap Stam has ruled his side out of signing Leeds United loanee Cameron Borthwick-Jackson in the January transfer window.
Borthwick-Jackson joined Thomas Christiansen’s side on a loan deal from their bitter rivals Manchester United in the summer but has made only one Championship appearance so far and has failed to impress at all.
That led some Leeds fans to hope that the youngster’s loan deal would be cancelled in the January window in order for him to move elsewhere.
Reading were among the favourites to take the left-back on loan Stam has expressly ruled the Royals out of the running for the defender at this time.
He told the Reading Chronicle: “We’ve mentioned his name (Borthwick-Jackson) in the past but not at this time to be honest.
“We need to be careful doing January transfers. We cannot do a lot, we are looking at two or three positions and to bring in extra players. We need to look at what our priority is and we need to be creative.”
Given Borthwick-Jackson’s failure to perform during his two Championship loan spells at Wolves and now at Leeds mean I am not surprised that Reading are not interested in securing his services, especially working on a limited budget.
He has talent but Stam needs people who can come in and make a difference immediately and Borthwick-Jackson would not be that man.
